Ephesians 6:14-17 describes six pieces of armor believers are told to put on: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the readiness of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. 4. The shield of faith extinguishes what the enemy throws
Verse 16 specifically describes the shield as able to extinguish "all the flaming arrows of the evil one" — doubt, fear, and accusation pictured as projectiles aimed to wound. Faith is the piece explicitly designed to intercept and neutralize those attacks before they land.
5. The helmet of salvation protects the mind
Head injuries were often fatal in ancient combat, and the mind is frequently the enemy's target through discouragement and confusion. Assurance of salvation guards specifically against attacks aimed at a believer's thinking and sense of identity.
