WordPress powers a huge share of the websites you visit every day, and getting it running on your own hosting account is far simpler than most people expect. This guide walks through the process using cPanel, which is what Vikalink and most Ghanaian hosts provide by default.
1. Log in to cPanel
After signing up for hosting, you'll receive a welcome email with a link to your cPanel dashboard, plus a username and password. Log in and look for the Softaculous Apps Installer section, usually near the top of the page.
2. Open the WordPress installer
Click the WordPress icon inside Softaculous, then select Install. You'll be shown a form asking which domain to install on and a few basic settings.
3. Choose your domain and folder
Pick the domain you want WordPress to run on. Leave the "In Directory" field blank if you want WordPress at your main domain (e.g. yoursite.com) rather than a subfolder.
4. Set your site name and admin login
Fill in a site name, an admin username that isn't simply "admin," and a strong password. Softaculous will generate one for you if you'd rather not think one up — use it.
5. Pick a theme (optional)
Softaculous lets you choose a starter theme during install. It's fine to skip this step and choose a theme properly once you're inside the WordPress dashboard.
6. Click Install and wait
The installer takes a minute or two to set up your database and files. Once finished, you'll get a direct link to your new site and to the wp-admin login page — bookmark both.
7. Secure the basics before you do anything else
Before adding content, delete the default "Hello World" post, remove any unused sample plugins, and install an SSL certificate so your site loads over https.
Key takeaway: Use Softaculous inside cPanel rather than uploading WordPress files manually — it configures the database automatically and takes a fraction of the time.
