Whether you're about to update a plugin, switch themes, or just want peace of mind, Plesk's Backup Manager makes it simple to snapshot your entire site.
1. Open Backup Manager
From Websites & Domains, click the Backup Manager icon for the domain you want to protect.
2. Create a manual backup
Click Back Up, and choose whether to include your website's files, databases, and mail — or all three for a complete snapshot. Do this before any major change.
3. Choose where backups are stored
By default backups save to your hosting account's storage. For extra safety, connect a remote storage option like an FTP server or cloud storage bucket under Remote Storage Settings.
4. Schedule automatic backups
Under Scheduled Backup Settings, set a daily or weekly schedule so you're never relying on remembering to do it manually.
Key takeaway: Keep at least one backup copy off your hosting account entirely — a remote storage location protects you even in the rare case your whole account needs restoring.
5. Download a backup locally
Click the download icon next to any backup in the list to save a copy directly to your computer — useful before migrating to a new host or plan.
6. Restore from a backup
If something goes wrong, select the backup you want from the list and click Restore. You can choose to restore everything or just specific parts, like the database only.
7. Set a retention limit
To avoid filling up your disk space with old backups, set a maximum number of backups to keep — Plesk will automatically remove the oldest ones once that limit is reached.
